Title: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: DapperDogman on January 06, 2017, 08:43:21 PM
So, I noticed no-one was using the interest check for OOC chatter, so to avoid too much OOC stuff leaking into the IC, I'm gonna go ahead and make a thread for all that here.

I also figured it would help to provide some idea of the tech advancements, so here are a few teasers!

Now, after that taste, I hope everyone is excited for the chance to get their hands on this type of gear. I will say now, to avoid any worry. These weapons are still highly experimental by the time the calamity strikes, and most of them are locked away inside of military labs, very, very few ever made it out, and those that did, are going to be in the hands of very powerful and influential people. The ammo for the energy weapons is also insanely rare, so the best guns you can aim for will be highly modernized firearms.

Also, do try to keep in mind, a lot of the guns being used by the crew are antiques, some of which are 100 years+ old, not all ammo will be plentiful, which is why I also provided a small stash of generic weaponry, should you run out of ammo for the ones you have.

Oh yeah I probably should've asked if that sheet was okay or if I need to re-do it.

5/7, a perfect score.

Also sorry for the gap in posts, I had a fully written draft, and then my computer crashed, so I had to retype it all, and finding time to do that was a little difficult.

Alright, asking this in the OOC part of the forums, am I to late to join in with a character of my own?

I'm gonna go ahead and make a guess that it'd be alright, knowin' Dapper.

Alright and one more question about it, should I post the character here, or should I post it in the forums for the already running RP?
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC

I'm alway open to a few more folks joining, and here would be the best place. I'd like to have all sheets in an easily accessible place, though most of the sheets in the IC are in the first few pages, so they're easy enough to find. It'd just be kind of hard to keep tabs on names, weapons, and such if I've gotta look through 50 pages or so, later in the RP :)

What exactly is still avalible or is it anything the character had on them at the time of the collapse?

Gonna drop this sheet here and keep it current with the changes in-game.

Name: Raymond "Ray" Carson
Gender: Male
Age: Early 30's
History: Raymond was a dropout who was picked up by the local crime syndicate at a young age. He worked his way up to doing hits for the organization. He was good at his job: quick, effective, but he was messy. Five years prior to the end of the world he slipped up and got put behind bars. He settled in for the decades he would spend there, but the apocalypse had different ideas. The prison cells were opened after the guards stopped coming, and when he regained his freedom he did the only thing he knew: he went back to business. Even at the end of civilization, there were still plenty of people who wanted someone dead, and those people paid good money.
Inventory:
Crumpled pack of cigarettes (7 left)
Matchbook (14 left)
4 days of food (Mainly dried meats and some canned fruits/veggies)
Switchblade
Glock 18 (10 round mag, 1 empty 10 round mag, 1 extended 20 round mag)
Mac-10 (30 round mag, 1 spare mag)
AR-15 (1 empty 30 round mag, 30 loose rounds) [+Shoulder strap] [-Broken stock]
Clothing: Dark parka, knit sweater, black ski pants, combat boots, leather gloves, beanie, and a pair of sunglasses.

Here's a char sheet if the GM and the others decide it's cool.

(click to show/hide)

Name:  Sal Paradise
Gender: Male
Age: Looks like a really rough 40, but is actually quite a bit older
History:

Served in some military when he was younger. Worked at a library for a while.

But for the most part, Sal spent most of his life before the end of the world just wandering around. As of such, the whole apocalypse thing didn't really present much of an existential  crisis to him. I mean, half time he didn’t even know where he was to begin with – Russia? The mid-west? Didn’t really matter, and neither did having far fewer people around.

So after all that stuff happened, he just kept wandering around, it being the type of occupation that really doesn’t depend much on what’s happening with everyone else. If anything, he found it was actually quite a bit easier to get by, since people didn’t seem to be able to whine if you borrowed their stuff, what with the whole “just about everyone is dead” thing.

He knows a little bit about everything. Or at least thinks he does.

Clothing: Yes.
Inventory:

- Backpack (ratty, smells kinda bad)
- First aid kit (filled with toilet paper. He just likes the box)
- 1 liter bottle full of peroxide (in case he gets a booboo)
- Box of matches (strike anywhere, 35 left)
- Little steel pot (but not a little teapot)
- Bullet mold, lyman, .459, 405 grain (single cavity)
- 1 litre bottle of paint thinner (he thought it was booze)
- Assorted seed packages (he always wanted a farm)
- 1 litre bottle of wood stain remover (lots of things SEEM like booze at first, ya know?)
- Sleeping bag (doesn’t smell great either)
- package of anti-acids (which were rather important after he discovered he doesn’t possess any actual booze)
- Box of razors (just in case. YA KNOW?)
- A can of beans (gee, a can opener would be handy)
- Several little metal strips (just wee little ones about two inches long)
- A utility knife (pliers, snips, a little knife, a ruler, and all the usual stuff. The can opener is missing)
- A towel (DO YOU KNOW WHERE YER TOWEL IS?)
- A small handpress (to pull apart and put together dem bullets)

Weapons:

1 Winchester 1886, .45-70, 4 round capacity, loaded (but in FANCY STAINLESS! with a SHORT BARREL! and TAKEDOWN FEATURES!)
(click to show/hide)

16 spare rounds, .45-70
20 empty brass, .45-70

1 TT-33 Tokarev, 7.62x25, 8 round capacity, loaded (but BLINGY!, with CERAKOTE! and LASER ENGRAVING! There sure are a lot of russians running around after all)
(click to show/hide)

What are your rules for or against mutants? Specifically, can I be a giant bird creature?

I'm gonna read the main thread in a moment, I was told it was cata based and gave the other characters a skim, but I didn't see any mutants or rules for or against mutants, so I figured I'd ask. If not, I have another idea that might allow it and work well in a thematically interesting way.

[edit] I have been told that it isn't explicitly cata based, but I will leave my question as it stands.
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: DapperDogman on January 20, 2017, 09:11:30 AM
This world has mutants, but they're adapted to the environment. So I wouldn't have said birds would be a great choice, outside of maybe an owl?

I'll also say, I'd prefer to keep the number of mutants down, as they're very rare, so for the sake of keeping the plot consistent, the group will only have one mutant at a time.

As for Jamie, looks good, bud! Welcome to the RP

"Icytone P" is slightly less potent than TNT, gram for gram, but we've got about 2 dozen grenades worth which should turn anything we stick it in into shrapnel. IRL, it takes about a day to actually prepare, and should be done at around 5 C rather than - apocalypse C or whatever it is here, but I'm going to conveniently ignore that if that's ok and doubt anyone else is as anal for realism as I am anyway.

Question for the GM - IIRC, the library roof access is locked. What type of lock is up there? Standard door, padlock, etc?
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: CockooClock on January 21, 2017, 09:25:27 PM
I think the roof is unlocked as once someone walked up there no problem.
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: Mrnocamera on January 21, 2017, 09:55:45 PM
Seeing as I decided it was locked considering everyone was leaving and Zoe would've had no reason to stay with the group otherwise, I'd say it's a padlock.
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: DapperDogman on January 21, 2017, 11:27:06 PM
I'd say it's just a simple padlock. Hit it with one of those breaching shotties, or bash it off with ease.

For the sake of ease, just have it be frozen and brittle. We don't need any more problems than you guys are about to have on your hands with this bandit group >:)

Name: F1-D0 K9 Series Physically Altered Weapon
Gender: Try to check, I dare you
Species: Canis Lupus Familiaris
History: A triumph in pre-Cataclysmic militarised biotech, F1-D0 K9 Series PAW is a Doberman, Caucasian Shepherd, and German Shepherd crossbred specifically for live experimentation of animal CBM's and AI technology. The CBM's prototype versions of human CBM's adapted for animal use. The truly revolutionary technology present in F1-D0 is the AI. It was originally designed to translate human speech into instructions to be carried out by the weapons and utilities mounted on F1-D0, allowing for on-field dispensing of medical supplies, ammunition, or even suppressive fire from an A7 laser rifle mounted on F1-D0's back. However, an upgrade allowing the AI to adapt to and recognize different command sets independently gave the creature sentience. Before scientists could vivisect F1-D0, cataclysm struck, allowing F1-D0 to escape. Now F1-D0 roams the Frigid Wastes, searching for any surviving lab experiments that also gained sentience.
Inventory:
Mounted A7 laser rifle, modified to fire lasers from two capacitor muzzles
Kevlar-plated torso and neck
Metabolic interchange system, which allows consumed food items to charge internal battery
K9 Storage Battery, a robust internal battery distributed evenly in and throughout the skin of F1-D0
Ordnance Storage Bay, which allows small items to be stored on F1-D0's person
Field Operations Interaction Limbs, a pair of extremely dexterous mechanical arms with four-gingered hands and opposable thumbs. Mounted on F1-D0's chest and remains folded when not in use.

Aight, I typed this up while on the john, so quality might be of questionable value.

I'll understand if it's a little too..."out there". If you guys think it is, then I'll type up some wacky demolitions specialist char with one arm.

S-sorry.
Title: Re: The Frigid Wastes: OOC
Post by: DapperDogman on January 31, 2017, 02:13:04 PM
Yeah, sorry to say, but this isn't a CDDA-canon based RP.

That being said, with a few modifications, it wouldn't be unreasonable to have a character of that type in the RP. Just beware that you may have a hard time getting your hands on any upgrades for your weapons and that laser weaponry is still very experimental at the time of the RP.

I suppose you'll be the groups mutant for now! Though I would ask you to tone down his strength a little bit, as Cyborgs/Androids are supposed to be minibosses, similar in strength to mutants, so him being able to so easily cleave the head off one would be kind of defeating the point of them :)

Other than that, there are no zombies (per se) in this scenario, but it all sounds pretty good other than that.

Tbh he really doesn't possess the kind of strength or over powered persona your thinking of

His Super Human Reflexes More Tie in to that fact if he sees a gun aimed at him he can pin point the exact location the bullet will travel to via the barrels trajectory

This is more so for survivability what he lacks in tactical training he makes up for in fulfilling orders

And the whole removeing the head from I cyborg thing is more of a belief from the point of the reader more than fact I mean the axe can certainly do damage but it most assuredly will not kill a cyborg in one hit

Matthias  (I'm not trying to lead the group to unstoppable glory I'm only trying to find my sister.

And the whole removeing the head from I cyborg thing is more of a belief from the point of the reader more than fact I mean the axe can certainly do damage but it most assuredly will not kill a cyborg in one hit

Given that being shot a few times, blown up hard enough to knock him through a building, having a literal nuke explode while attached to him, and getting into a fist fight with a giant, semi-invincible weather controlling wolf did not do anything beyond mildly inconvenience the cyborg we encountered, I'd have to agree that an axe most assuredly should not do anything to them.

Androids are built to be the world's perfect super soldiers in this universe, in competition with the altered humans that your character would be part of, they're built from the strongest metals, most advanced tech, and near indistinguishable from human AIs.
They come with everything from laser eyes, to jetpacks, to forcefields. And of course, at first, these guys will look completely human.

So to put it bluntly, they're few, far between, and tough as nails. A concentrated burst of machine gun fire could damage one heavily, but small arms and incendiary attacks will do very little, and melee is almost entirely out of the question, short of a sledgehammer, and even that would take a long time to do any significant damage. I have purposely made the one seen so far be very clumsy, so as not to be unfair to the players :)

But in future, expect to have to outsmart any androids you encounter, cyborgs are a little easier, due to the fleshy human bits still left, but they are going to be treated as the lowest tier of miniboss

So, for a basic scale of power

Cyborgs/Lesser Mutants (We'll get into these later on)
Mutants (Howlers are a good example)
Advanced Mutants (Again, we'll get into these later, but expect a tough fight with these bastards)
Androids (Like the Bandit Leader, but not all of them will be so clumsy)
Remnants (These will be very, very rare, and often not hostile, The Judge is a notable example)
