SET-UP
It's the future. Some year in the future, lots of numbers nobody cares about. Space ships, space stations, aliens, cybernetics, robots, lasers, whatever. Doesn't matter.
You're a bunch of random jerks flying around the galaxy getting in fights, kicking ass, making money. Whatever keeps you afloat. Mercenaries, guns for hire, soldiers of fortune, gunmen, whatver. Doesn't matter.
You're the biggest and the baddest in these parts. Well, at least you want to be. There's a lot of big bad guys here. Sometimes they're on your side, some times they aren't.
Honestly, not much to put here. This is all an excuse to write badass battles between badasses.
The players don't necessarily work together. You can all be independent or something and get in fights with each other, don't expect killing each other to be easy, you're tough as hell.

RULES
Rule of Cool
Be a badass.
Don't be a dick.
Don't abuse your power.
At least 3 sentences per post.

This won't be heavily GM'd or anything. If you guys just wanna write crazy shit for each other that's cool. I'll try to write crazy shit for you guys too. Everybody can kind of GM I guess.

... we will push back these filthy invaders. This is our space, and we don't need some alien scum taking the worlds we spilled our ancestor's blood for. You are the last line of defense for Humanity.
Make us proud, or die trying.
Godspeed, pilots.

The war with the Salvarians has gone on for 30 long years now, and things are looking grim for Humanity. Their strange alien foes are seemingly unfazed by the substantial losses of manpower they've suffered and only seem to be getting stronger. Humanity has grown weaker as time has gone on, and they are pushed back to what may be their last stand.

The Skylark 1000 series, the basic ship of the 73rd "Last Chancers" Flight Squadron. The Skylark is the newest ship to come out of the factories of the war effort. The Skylark is a top of the line, all around ship only now being put into use.
As a member of the 73rd squadron, you are issued flight suits and a basic pistols (none of the art is mine, of course). You are stationed aboard the Maelstrom carrier ship, out at the reaches of what's left of human space.
Your mission is simple. Be the last line of defense against the Salvarian menace, keep your people safe, and if you're going to die... Don't do it without a fight.
You're all we have, after all.

General Discussion / Weird Dreams and Other Nightly Things
« on: November 26, 2014, 01:21:04 PM »
Figured we could use a new dream/sleep related things thread.

So I'm on melatonin to help me sleep now, and along with kinda early wake up times I've noticed that I'm more aware of my dreams now, and can actually remember some of them to some degree... At least them happening. Anyways, last night I had a kinda weird dream.

I was in the back of an SUV, driving through the woods. There were a few other kids, but we were all quiet, and we all had scripts too, so it was like some theater or acting thing. It's super dark, and our SUV pulls into a clearing and parks and theres like 2 more SUVs and they park too. A bunch of kids pile out but it keeps staying quiet as hell, but we're all reading these scripts. We start rehearsing or whatever, and this one kid finally starts saying something about how we doesn't like his character. But things start getting kinda fuzzy here...
The kid just starts kinda, lashing out and getting angry... I can't remember much after that, but I somehow find myself lying down in one of the SUVs later, staring out into the woods. I see a woman, just walking at the edge of the clearing. At least, that's what I thought it was. Just a tall, white figure, walking along the edge of the trees. I don't think anybody else sees her. So I call out and wave, and everything goes fuzzy and weird for a moment and she drops on all fours and speeds away at ridiculous speed. She is definitely some sort of animal thing when she drops. I don't know if she changed somehow, or was just that way all along.
Anyways, I jump up and there's an adult in the car with me, so I start telling them what I saw. Then he just smiles really creepily and says "the forest beast"...
Then I woke up.
At 4:20am.
Ate like 12 joints.

So, ah... Share your weird dreams or whatever I guess? Don't really have to be weird dreams I guess.

You blink a few times, staring down the hill you've just ascended. You can't seem to remember why you're here on this hill, but something deep inside you insists that it's incredibly important. You slide down the hill into the plains below, throwing up dust all around you. Ahead of you stretches out grassy plains that seem to go on for miles. Far off in the distance you think you can see smoke from a village. More immediately concerning is a group of men standing around a big... Something. Whatever it is is thrashing about, but it remains silent. It's a bit unsettling, whatever it is. Beyond the plains you can see the mountains rising above the ground. You can see snow falling at they tops, and it's strangely beautiful. You can see tower of sorts rising up from the side of the mountains, though you're sure you can't reach it yet.

>Head back over the hill.
>Start towards the maybe village.
>Investigate the thrashing thing.
>Wander the plains
>Something else.

"What should we do with her?"
"Just leave her. I'm sure the unmen will find her."
"I bet the mask will sell for a bit. Should we-"
"Hells no. I bet that it's some religious thing. I don't want to anger some god."
"You've always been so superstitious. There's no such thing as go-. GAH!"
"Don't question my faith, Paz."
"Fine. Whatever the hell you say. Feth."
~~~
You come to your senses in the middle of a clearing, your meager belongings currently missing. You struggle to your feet and observe your surroundings. Above you the sky is a pleasant blue, though it's darkening from the looks of it. A few clouds pass overhead and no more. Looking at the trees around you, the trees are thick and have grown close together, effectively blocking out most sunlight. Ahead of you is a winding path leading further into the woods, and there are significantly more gaps in the leaves so the path is well lit. Occasionally you hear a clicking sound from your left, though you're unsure what it is.
You're unsure what you're doing here, but the name "Paz" is still fresh in your head. Possibly it could lead you to your assailants. And maybe a hint as to why you're here...
>Search for your equipment.
>Follow the path.
>Examine the clicking sound.
>Wander into the woods.
>Something else?
Introduction
So I know I've tried GMing several RPs on this forum and they all sort of just wither and die, but I wanted to try something focused on a much smaller group (2 to 4 people) that I know can all be on at the same time on a semi-consistent basis. If this works out, I might add a second group. If a group has trouble being online at the same time, they will be disbanded. I could possibly allow them to continue as solo characters...
The game owes inspiration in part to Dark Souls, as well as an obscure(?) suggestion game/comic that originated on /tg/. Unfortunately, it's name escapes me. Nox, or something.
This RP does follow a story, though I'm gonna be fairly free with it still.
The World
Wayward will (at least initially) take place in the fantasy world of Saleris. You, the characters, have little knowledge of the events leading up to your arrival in Saleris but are immediately faced with the rather serious situation facing the scattered settlements of Saleris. Creatures simply called 'unmen' are apparently becoming a larger and larger problem. Being new here though, you don't know much.
Your Character
To join, you need a few things:
A name
A class (well, what sort of class you want.)
A look (just physically, I'll decide your starting outfit/armor)
ALSO, make sure to include your timezone and what times/days you'll be available. If you're super cool, you'll give me the time in PST/PDT. Sorry, just realized we can run on forum time. State what time you can be on in forum time, which is UTC (+0), it's the time it shows on posts and such unless you've changed it.
I will provide you with your starting equipment, stats, and skills. For those curious, the stats are as follows:
Strength dictates your character's physical prowess.
Endurance is your stamina and physical resistance rather than your raw strength. It determines your stamina.
Vitality is your vigor, hardiness, and willingness to keep fighting. It decides your health.
Dexterity is a measure of your steadiness and skill, rather than speed.
Agility represents your speed and nimbleness.
Intelligence shows your general knowledge and ability to think.
Charisma is your skill with people, persuasion, and overall charm.
Perception measures how aware you are of your surroundings.
Bravery shows how you handle tense, scary, and stressful situations. It determines your maximum stress.
Faith is your reverence for the gods, wherever they may be.
Luck is just that. Luck. Sometimes it's all you need.
You may discover a few more stats as you go along the way.
Rolling and All That
Really the rolling I'm doing behind the scenes isn't that important, but if you really care I'm using a very simple 2d6 system inspired by Apocalypse and Dungeon World. 2-6 is a failure, 7-9 is a partial success, while 10-12 is a full success. 12+ and 2- are critical successes and failures respectively.
Other Games / Destiny Beta
« on: July 25, 2014, 09:52:30 AM »
So the Destiny Beta opened up for anybody who wants to play yesterday, and I've been playing it for a bit and I think it's great fun! It's a sci-fi (with some fantasy) FPSMMO by Bungie (Halo guys, if you didn't know). Unfortunately it's only on consoles now, and it'll be the standard $50-60 once it comes out fully. But for now, if you have a PS3/4 or an Xbox 360/One, then you should be able to grab the beta for free.
I'm a Level 5 Warlock right now, and if anybody on PS3 wants to play you can add me as InvinciCowBot.
The group of new adventurers stood up at the top of a hill overlooking a seaside tiny village. Several people milled about in the street, but the adventurers already knew that these weren't people any more. An undead plague has swept this village, and they planned to figure out why. There were rumors of a necromancer gaining some power in the area, so possibly this was linked to him? Maybe it would even help them find something that could lead them to the World Heart...
"Down there," the farmer who had led them said, pointing down to the village. "They came in out of nowhere and attacked... I'm sure there are survivors, so if you could rescue them..." He trailed off and frowned, then adjusted his straw hat to cover his face. "I'd be mighty thankful."
14
The group stood around at the edge of a clearing, facing a circular staircase made from stone that led deeper into the ground. The barrow ahead of them would be the future site of the dungeon they would store the World Heart in, but first they had to deal with the current inhabitants. Around them it snowed lightly, leaving the ground covered with snow in spots. Most of the ground beyond the clearing remained bare thanks to the trees covering it.
The barrow awaited it's future masters.
"I wish I'd brought a coat or something," Elizabeth mumbled to herself, rubbing her bare upper arms. Mr. Graves stood beside her, towering above the whole group as he scanned the treeline. She looked to her companions and frowned.
One week. To think one week ago your world as you knew it ended. Portals opening in the sky, riots in the streets, the dead rising, bombs dropping. One week ago the world went to shit, and here we are. The survivors, the lost, the lucky, the doomed. Doing whatever it takes for us to keep on going. We've already lost so much, let's not lose anymore. At least, that's what we tell ourselves. Inevitably we all lose a little something, some lose a lot. Integrity, hope, trust, morality, honor. But that's just how it is, isn't it?
"So it goes."
Faith had the zombie separated from it's 'friends' and pinned to the ground. Her knees were keeping it's arms in place, and it lifted it's head as it thrashed, trying to get at her. In one hand she had her pocket knife, definitely longer than what was legal back when there was law. She frowned at the moving corpse and jammed her knife into it's skull before yanking it back out. The thing twitched a few more times, then stopped.
"And another walker taken care of, she said as she wiped the blood off her blade on the zombie's shirt. She stood up and closed it before sticking it back in her pocket. The previous week had been mostly just her walking along the freeway, and while it was certainly nice to see a city again, she wasn't expecting all these... Well, undead. She'd known that they were around since the beginning, hell the truck driver she was riding with became one after the accident they had. But she didn't think there'd be THIS many in the city.
She looked out of the alleyway she was in and was relieved to see that none of the zombies in the street had noticed her. She smiled and stepped over the (re?)dead zombie as she walked towards the back of the alley. Above her was the ladder that would lead her into the apartments above her, but it was just out of reach. She hadn't been able to knock the ladder down with rocks, but the dumpster at the back of the alley was a good bet... If she could move it.
((So drop-in, free form Cata RP! No GMs or anything. If you could throw together a sheet kinda like this, that'd be triple sweet. If you wanna start a big event, ask. No bullshit. Yadda yadda yadda. Now I'm sleeping.
Also feel free to have multiple characters, make temporary NPCs, have little subplots going on.))
