My attempt at breaking the Sound Barrier in CDDA.
« on: July 01, 2016, 11:13:07 AM »
Today, i discovered Debug Mode. So i built some vehicles in hopes of breaking the sound barrier! The story of each vehicle is in the Imgur Galleries below.

That poor moose! But it's life was lost to science - a more noble cause does not exist.

Hey, did someone just scream "Witness me!" ...?

Glorious scientific work, son. I admire the dedication.

I would suggest trying a narrow (1-tile wide) vehicle for maximum speed and acceleration. The air resistance (K aerodynamics in vehicle stats) gets worse as width increases. Even side mirrors count, so leave them out as well. Would love to know the speed and acceleration differences of a 5-tile wide and a 1-tile wide vehicle, both having the same mass, or otherwise study the effects of K aerodynamics.

Would a 1-tile wide vehicle pierce deeper into a building if piloted at mach 1 speed and above? ...I guess, if you hit a window or a door, and not a concrete wall. Also, add a spiked plating or a spiked ram to the front for maximum collision damage.

We've witnessed so much progress being done here, stimulating even further ideas, and so, much more work remains. The work of science is never done.

Just did this. check out part 5.

HAHAHA!
Gotta love those vehicle stats.
And such a splendid flight from the crash! One could almost use it to cross terrain obstacles, such as rivers.

I think someone last year 2015ish, broke 2,000 kph with v12 engines.  I believe is was .C before some of the issues with handling being a bit harder offroad.

Yeah, i have done it with no cheating in an experimental after 0.C (2015-ish). That was when i realized that V12's are so much more powerful than the V8's ballfairy used in his 1000mph quest. Link here.
Sadly the pics seem to have beed deleted by the host and i have not backed them up.

Also, with debugging V12's until they got the largest ones, people managed quite a bit more that what i did.
The trick used to be 1 tile wide vehicle as light as can be (lightest wheels & frame) but with as many of the largest V12's as possible. You are only using one V12, add more. 5+ should be enough to propell you beyond earth and the cataclysm.

IIRC mugling planned to add friction and drag and i haven't followed development too closely, so these speeds may not be possible now.

PS. I got to say, the greatest part of the crazy speed trials were the period after engines died. Scorched earth does not imply half of it for a crash at ~2500kph. (especially when crashing into a forest as was the case in my test)

I, too, have done experiments like this. The first trick is building the right car. The second trick is finding a path long enough to accelerate to full speed. The third trick is getting lucky enough to not slam into a raccoon at mach 2.

I like to do crazy thing like this from time to time. Below is one example.

1.Find nice long road
2.Debug in Mjolnir, debug a lot of strength, you don't even need to move the car, just smash a passageway right through the car.
3.Get a bike. You heard me right, not a motorcycle, a bike.
4.Suit up, dress in a nice tuxedo and smoke a cigar or 2.
5.Debug in more strength and invincibility
6.Debug kill all nearby wildlife on the road.
7.Using your huge strength, go at supersonic speeds.
8. Right before you crash, jump off bike.
8.5. Fly
9.Land, and smoke another cigar.
10.Repeat a few times untill you can predict where you will land.
11.Spawn a couple hulk in line. Move out of reality bubble to make sure they stay there.
12.Spawn cigar at your landing zone.
12.5. You know what will happen next.
13. Get on bike, smoke another cigar.
14. Reach a speed of around 10000 MPH
15. Jump off bike
16. Slam through hulks, killing them while flying at 10000 MPH.
17.Land and pick up cigar that was in the landing zone.
18. Smoke it.
19.???
20. Profit

MMR has 80 strength. It's hilarious to go 70 mph on a bike and try to navigate cities without ramming into things.
