Acronyms and Slang Phrases
« on: March 13, 2017, 09:55:59 PM »
What does "iirc" mean? I've seen the phrase and/or acronym around this forum for a while now, but I've never been able to derive a meaning from context. The only IRC I know is "Internet Relay Chat".

While I'm at it, what is a "dakka", and where does it originate?

Please forgive my ignorance. Don't feed me to the amoebic mold.

Well, you can find most meanings if you look them up, though i'll tell you those for now!

IIRC is If I Recall Correctly. IRC is, indeed, the chat. Dakka, ehh, i never really thought out a definition, i guess it'd be firepower. More dakka!

Apparently it comes from the sound automatic guns make. Y'know, dakkadakkadakka. It comes from the orks in Warhammer 40k, and i just realize i should have remembered that!

Many Forumspeak words can be found in Urban Dictionary.

I hadn't thought of that.

Every time I saw "iirc", I thought it meant "In Internet Relay Chat", which lead to me reading things like "you can't inject serum in internet relay chat", or "you can't wield things on the ground in internet relay chat", which I suppose are technically true.

Thanks for clarifying.
