LOL, my ultra late replies continued:

I'd suspect that those flexible weapons have similar advantages and disadvantages as a flail. Ignoring the flashy maneuvers, you have something that would be a pain in the ass to block, but not entirely unstoppable. And something that's as dangerous to an unpracticed user as it is to the enemy.

True, they are flails, someone who gets it.

A whaling harpoon!

Exactly! my asian friends made the same harpoon statement when they showed it to me.

Kpinga, diamond chainsaw, chucks and bladed chucks are all awesome! Good posts bro.

Hell yes! Thanks bro! cool to see someone who appreciated it.

So why would the knife-on-a-chain be fun?
How could it be justified in the setting?
What sort of mod would it belong in?

The "knife-on-a-chain" is cool, why not? but I don't think it resembles any of the recently mentioned weapons. Rope dart is what comes to mind.

True, he got the weapon wrong. Seldom do people get their target of criticism wrong in the first sentence. So his entire wall of text is null and void and written for nothing... Epic fail! Thankfully I don't have to go through that entire wall of text. Thanks for that bro.

Exactly it is cool, why not? The more weapons the better! What does it matter to him if anyone mods anything in their own game? Are we hurting people? Nope. Who is going to stop us? And by what authority? Unless the admins/programmers come in and tells everyone here, that they can't mod json files for their own game, everyone will just keep on doing it. Most importantly why does anyone even have to justify anything before making a mod for their own game? and why question in what sort mod it belongs? lolwhat, for a private mod? We could mod in the BFG9000, the Fallout weapons, or any [Insert your favorite SciFi/Magic/Insane weapon) for their own game, and who is going to stop us? Let them try it, lol.

That said, I see fallacies and flaws in his critique and assertions about that knife-on-a-chain, but luckily I see others already pointed them out. if a mod about that knife-on-a-chain did not exist, I would have made one for my own game, but another member, Neversalimus already made it into a mod, and he did a great job! It is a cool weapon! There can never be too many weapons.

What sort of mod would it belong in?
This really seems like something for a mod rather than the mainstream.

Wait, why ask "What sort of mod would it belong in?" and then write "This really seems like something for a mod rather than the mainstream."? That was highly contradictory. First you question which mod it would belong in (which is weird, because people are free to mod stuff into their own private game, without your or anyone else's consent) but then you somehow recommend it going into a mod...? Which was what I was saying all along, mod them in their own game! LOL

Why does it matter what anyone puts in their own game as a mod? Are they hurting others? Nope. And who said anything about putting anything in the "mainstream" main game??? Please, point out where I wrote that? It was not me, that is for sure. I cant even find others making that statement either.

Oh also those knife-chuks posted on the previous page are hilariously dumb :)

Calling those bladed chucks (or any weapons) "hilariously dumb" is sad behaviour. Especially seeing the posts were made for fun. Not to mention the many other weapons posted, that don't even exist or can be truly called weird, but are still cool of course.

Exactly! very Sad indeed! This weapon is REAL, while this entire thread is full of fictional/made-up weapons (which are all cool weapons, I will never put them down like that)... But I don't see him throwing weird potshot statements like "hilariously dumb" at them... the irony Burns, it is just pathetic.

I was not the even the first person who originally brought up blade chucks (his post got rolled-back). But friends told me it was real, passed me the links, and so i thought i'd posted it here, to show that it existed, in response to that rolled-back comment! I explicitly explained this in my earlier post. So that another Epic fail on his part. Hell the vanilla main game has the chainsaw Lajatang...

What is worse than "sad" is when he throws words like "hilariously dumb" while claiming in his very first sentence, to have "experience using them" multisection blades! LOL what? And he talks about "hilariously dumb"? Now that is what people could actually call "hilariously dumb". Proof or it never happened.

In my experience using them, multisection blades/staffs would make for hilariously unwieldy and impractical weapons, even compared to other flexible weapons such as whips/meteor/rope-dart (which are all far more predictable in their behaviour, particularly on impacts, than flexible weapons made of large jointed solid sections).

Before you write that it is a "hilariously unwieldy and impractical weapons", research the weapon...

Behold the 3 section staff (the bladed version is included as he talks about poking and striking like a broad sword, which is impossible with just blunt sticks).
Quote
The Three-Section Staff is one of the most difficult and versatile weapons within the Chinese Martial Arts. Typically thought of as a Northern Chinese weapon, the Three-Sectioned Staff can be used as both a short range weapon and as a long, flexible whip-like weapon. Only a few Traditional Chinese Martial Systems teach Three-Sectioned Staff sets. Choy Li Fut is the only Southern Chinese system to teach this devastating weapon.
Quote
“Chao realized the devastating potential of his new weapon -- it was small and easily carried and conceiled, it could be used for poking or striking like a broadsword, it could be used as a whip and it was very useful for joint-locking techniques.

Chao's fame with this weapon spread and soon other escorts and bodyguards were using the "Three-Section Staff" also. It soon became the signture weapon of escorts who would carry a banner with a picture of the weapon as a warning to potential thieves that the person or persons being guarded were well-protected by a highly-trained Martial Artist.”

Note: spelling errors are from the website itself, but then again who cares about grammar nazis.

You were saying? Guess that quickly proved your “hilariously unwieldy and impractical weapons” claim, a total lie. What credibility you had is gone. The claim that you have “experience using” the “multisection blade”, is an even more "hilariously dumb" lie. Proof or it never happened. Yet use your “experience” with those weapons as a means to lend weight and credibility to your false claims and assertions.

That source is literally from a 15 second google search, there are tons more out there detailing its historical usage and devastating efficacy.

Glorious soviet necropost.

Also, I regret never adding cavalry sabers, steel versions of the "covers head and eyes" helm, and winged hussars to Medieval Mod. :V

I've got a suggestion (I don't know whether it's already been mentioned or not, because 77 pages seem like a lot of stuff to read), if it's been mentioned, then feel free to correct me. Anyway, here it is:

Mortar, which would be quite unique in that it isn't a vehicle, but can't be fired simply by pressing 'f', Instead, it must be deployed by pressing 'a' key. That action would make it able to fire, but at the same time render the user unable to move (unless he'd stop using the weapon while it's still deployed).

The shells would take some time to reach the target and its accuracy wouldn't be too high and would have a low rate of fire. However, firepower of the larger ones would rival that of tank cannons and it would have a very long range. Also, because it fires in arc, the projectile wouldn't hit stuff in the way to the target.

So essentially you get a bulky, heavy, slow-firing and a bit inaccurate cannon that renders its user unable to move in exchange for high firepower, ability to shoot over long distances and the fact that the projectile wouldn't hit anything in its way to its target.

that does sound interesting, but the problem is, of course, can the engine even do something like that?

one idea i have is the HL2 gravity gun, it would sort of act like the railgun CBM but you can wield it and it works with anything instead of just metal items. you can also 'load' it with any item nearby and it ignores the weight of the loaded item. like, say, that 300 pound storage battery.

Deploying an item and then have it do a set action upon use?  I don't think it'd be so difficult.  We have things like rollmats and such that can be deployed.  So a unqiue command that launches a shell several tiles over and isn't widely accurate but affects areas.  We have frig'n nuclear missile silos! :P

except nukes don't actually attack anything in their target area, they just turn things into rubble.

I'm playing on the latest stable so I have no clue what's been added in the experimentals but are Kubotans in?
They're small pistons usually made from metal and with a not very pointy end that find application in self defense.

It should be a low volume/weight, easily craftable item that gives a boost to bash and a tiny bit of pierce. Maybe just chnage the brass knuckles a bit and make it compatible with unarmed styles.
