Assigning crafting screen subcategories to new recipes
« on: December 08, 2013, 05:22:08 AM »
With the new crafting screen upgrade I thought it would be a good idea to explain how to assign new recipes to a subcategory.

Recipes must be given a "subcategory" field:
Code: [Select]
  "type" : "recipe",
  "result": "water_clean",
  "category": "CC_FOOD",
  "subcategory": "CSC_FOOD_DRINKS",

Any recipe without the subcategory field will be put in category->Other.

As you may be able to tell from the above example or may have noticed in game, the drinks category is gone. Drinks have been moved into a subcategory under food.

Valid category->subcategory combinations are:

CC_WEAPONS:
  • CSC_WEAPONS_BASHING
  • CSC_WEAPONS_CUTTING
  • CSC_WEAPONS_PIERCING - (SPEAR or STAB flagged items)
  • CSC_WEAPONS_RANGED
  • CSC_WEAPONS_EXPLOSIVES - (Not ammo)
  • CSC_WEAPONS_OTHER - Anything else.

CC_AMMO:
  • CSC_AMMO_BULLETS
  • CSC_AMMO_ARROWS
  • CSC_AMMO_COMPONENTS - (Parts to make ammo)
  • CSC_AMMO_OTHER - Anything else.

CC_FOOD:
  • CSC_FOOD_DRINKS
  • CSC_FOOD_MEAT
  • CSC_FOOD_VEGGI
  • CSC_FOOD_SNACK - (Junk food)
  • CSC_FOOD_BREAD
  • CSC_FOOD_PASTA
  • CSC_FOOD_OTHER - Anything else. (Powders go here - Flour, Sugar, etc.

CC_CHEM:
  • CSC_CHEM_DRUGS
  • CSC_CHEM_MUTAGEN
  • CSC_CHEM_CHEMICALS - (Bleach, Disinfectant, etc.
  • CSC_CHEM_OTHER - Anything else.

CC_ELECTRONIC:
  • CSC_ELECTRONIC_CBMS
  • CSC_ELECTRONIC_LIGHTING
  • CSC_ELECTRONIC_COMPONENTS
  • CSC_ELECTRONIC_OTHER

CC_ARMOR:
  • CSC_ARMOR_STORAGE - (Bags, packs, pouches, etc.)
  • CSC_ARMOR_SUIT - (Covers whole body)
  • CSC_ARMOR_HEAD
  • CSC_ARMOR_BACK - (Cloaks and such)
  • CSC_ARMOR_TORSO
  • CSC_ARMOR_ARMS
  • CSC_ARMOR_HANDS
  • CSC_ARMOR_LEGS
  • CSC_ARMOR_FEET
  • CSC_ARMOR_OTHER - Anything else.

CC_OTHER:
  • CSC_OTHER_TOOLS
  • CSC_OTHER_MEDICAL
  • CSC_OTHER_CONTAINERS - (Liquid storage)
  • CSC_OTHER_MATERIALS - (Glass, metal, etc.
  • CSC_OTHER_PARTS - (Vehicle parts)
  • CSC_OTHER_TRAPS
  • CSC_OTHER_OTHER - Anything else.

One thing that might be useful is to allow some items to show up in multiple subcategories eventually.  Like for example if there were a recipe to make gunpowder (not sure if there is or not), it might fall under both chemistry->other and ammo->components, or fusion packs in electronics->other and ammo->other.

That's a good idea. I mean, hydrogen peroxide is both a drug(for its medical purpose) and a highly useful chemical reagent. I think.
Clearly you need to be assimilated by the vehicle. Be the speed.

While I agree that some things could belong in multiple places, the crafting menu is already so packed with stuff I really don't want multiples
Mars is currently the only planet populated entirely by robots. Therefore Martian invasion is the same thing as the robots taking over.

Good judgement comes from experience.
And experience?
Well, that comes from poor judgement.
