just for my curiosity, does anyone remember a very old 4x space game named Reunion? I think it predates all other titles, and i played the shit out of that game.
And Freelancer is by far my favorite, also played Crossfire mod, it has a very nice on-line server and community.
Homeworld and some of its sequels are good space RTSs.

Hmm... I seem to have not heard of some of the games and not know where to buy them. Can anyone tell me what freelancer is and where to get it?

Idk if Freelancer is any longer for sale anywhere (maybe on ebay?), so in this particular instance i'd say go and do the bad thing :)

There's also zoo base which is (was..is?) a 4x game that's supposed to be going open source at some point.  Not sure if there are any builds still floating around though..could ask the devs?

Freelancer is indeed for sale on GOG but im pretty sure 90% of the active community identifies themselves as pirates cause the game is designed to be redistributed with no resistance

Space Station 13.

Now in.... 8 major flavors? Many flavors in any case. New ones keep popping up.

I think the local shop has 7 flavors and a few of those weird sauce things that are supposed to taste like oranges.
Who says that you need to be good at games, anyway?

I would play goon... BUT DAMN IT'S INTERFACE, LAG, AND FUCKING LsnbEGLJKNB!
Also I prefer paradise, even though I was banned for a day for suiciding when non-antag, cause I was on for like 20 hours and tried all the rolls and got bored as shit not killing people.

Playing basketball alone in the holodeck is fun.

SS13 is good with that.
